Overview
Our Regenerative Organic Certified® Echinacea seeds grow into a hardy, long-blooming perennial with vibrant purple flowers and a strong, aromatic root. Known for supporting immune health, this beautiful flowering herb has a long history of medicinal use for colds, fevers, and inflammation, while also attracting pollinators and adding lasting beauty to gardens.
Conditions
Echinacea thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It tolerates a variety of soil types, including poorer soils, making it a low-maintenance addition to garden beds or containers.
Planting
Plant 2–3 seeds per starter pot indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Thin to one strongest plant per pot when ~2” tall, and transition outside (harden) for 7 days before transplanting.
Care
Once established, Echinacea is drought-tolerant and easy to care for. Water during dry periods, deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms, and give the plant space to grow.
Pests and Disease
Echinacea is naturally hardy, with few pest or disease issues. Occasional aphids, powdery mildew, or leaf spots may appear, but good spacing, airflow, and organic treatments keep plants healthy—here’s a link to our favorite homemade insecticidal soap recipe for plants! Proper drainage and avoiding overwatering also help prevent root rot.
Harvest
Harvest flowers and leaves when blooms are fully open. Roots can be harvested in fall after the first or second year for teas, tinctures, or herbal remedies.
