Meet Carmen & Kurt | CDK Farms
Farming is in the family at CDK Farms. Wife & husband duo, Carmen and Kurt, have been farming 80 certified organic acres for over 15 years. Located 30 miles west of Boise, Idaho, the farm is great for growing a wide selection of organic veggies, flowers, and leafy greens. Kurt & Carmen have twin boys, 11 years old, who you'll see helping out in the farm - often outworking the older 4H high school kids who come and help work during peak season as well. CDK Farms is one of the oldest organic farms in Idaho - really pioneering more sustainable agriculture in the region based on crop rotation and limiting pesticide use. Fun fact - Kurt & Carmen have been together since they met early during undergrad...you can say they were mint to be! :)
Meet Sebastian Aguilar and Kelly Gelino | Chickadee Farms
Based in Talent, Oregon, Sebastian Aguilar and his wife Kelly Gelino started farming in 1997, focused first on servicing local CSAs and farmers markets. In 2010, the couple also began farming to produce seeds for others to then grow at home, and as that demand has now taken off, they are focused solely on producing the best, highest quality organic seed for families across the US. Sebastian and Kelly pride themselves on the sustainability built into his 20 acre farm — 1/2 the land is growing seed; the other 1/2 is cover crops helping rejuvenate the soil (and sequester carbon!). Sebastian and Kelly focus on organic flowers and herbs/veggies/leafy greens. When talking to Sebastian, the first thing you'll hear is just how proud he is of their quality - constantly measuring and testing for the seeds with the best germination rates, purity rates (meaning nothing else accidentally gets mixed into seed packets like dirt, pepples, etc); and also vigor (how well each seed grows). We couldn't be more proud to bring Sebastian and Kelly's 100% Organic and super high quality seeds to you in our Back to the Roots seed packets. Thanks for all your hardwork Sebastian and Kelly to make sure we can all have the gardens of our dreams...we appreciate you berry much! :)
